Asbestos Removal & Abatement in Riverbank, CA

Asbestos Removal · Riverbank, CA

Asbestos removal from containment through approved disposal

Asbestos removal comes first on most older buildings, before any demolition or remodel work starts. Our asbestos abatement crews work across the Central Valley, the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz.

The family has run this company since 1967, when it started out building houses. Today we hold CSLB #247684 and CAL OSHA #507. A licensed asbestos contractor needs that Cal/OSHA registration for any job over 100 square feet.

  • Popcorn ceiling texture abatement

What asbestos abatement involves

Asbestos abatement starts by sealing off the work area. We hang plastic sheeting and tape off every opening. The heating and air system gets shut down so nothing moves through the ducts. Negative air machines with HEPA filters pull air out of the space so fibers stay inside.

Workers go in with suits and respirators. Material gets wetted down before it comes off, which keeps the dust low. It then goes into sealed and labeled bags for the trip to the landfill. After the consultant clears the area, interior demolition work can begin.

Where asbestos hides in older California buildings

Most of our asbestos removal work is on buildings put up before 1980. Popcorn ceiling asbestos is the one people ask about most. Spray-on ceiling texture with asbestos was banned in 1978, though crews sprayed leftover stock for years after that.

Under old carpet you often find 9 by 9 inch tile set in black asbestos floor mastic. Duct wrap, pipe insulation, drywall joint compound, and some stucco can hold it too. A survey before any residential demolition tells you which of these are in play.

What California requires before the work starts

In California the survey and the removal are two different jobs. A Cal/OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultant takes the samples and writes the report. We are an asbestos removal company, so we read that report and work from it.

Your local air district also needs notice before the work starts. The usual window is 10 working days ahead, and a demolition needs that notice even when the survey finds nothing. Each district runs its own program, so asbestos abatement in Sacramento files separately from asbestos removal in San Francisco.

FAQ

Asbestos Removal Questions, Answered

Common questions about asbestos removal across the Central Valley, the Bay Area and Sacramento. If yours is not here, call and ask. The person who answers runs the jobs.

Call (209) 652-9206

Do you test for asbestos?
No. The sampling and the lab work belong to a certified asbestos consultant. An asbestos abatement contractor like us handles the removal after the report comes back. Send us that report and we can price the job.
How do I know if my popcorn ceiling has asbestos?
You cannot tell by looking at it. Spray-on texture with asbestos was banned in 1978, but leftover stock stayed in use for years. If the house went up before the mid 1980s, have it sampled. The lab result decides whether popcorn ceiling asbestos removal is needed.
How soon can asbestos removal start?
The air district notice sets the front end of the schedule. Most districts want it at least 10 working days before work begins. Some allow a shorter window on small residential jobs for an added fee. Once that period runs out, we can set up containment.
Do I have to move out during the work?
Often you can stay, since the work area gets sealed off from the rest of the house. It depends on where the material sits and how much of it there is. If the work covers your kitchen or the only bathroom, plan to be out. We can tell you which applies once we read the survey.
Where does the asbestos go after removal?
It gets wetted, bagged, sealed, and labeled before it leaves the building. We haul it to a landfill that is permitted to accept asbestos waste. Only some landfills hold that permit. You get the disposal paperwork for your records.
