Building Demolition Up To Three Stories

Commercial demolition takes a whole building down and clears the debris off the site. Central Valley jobs run from Modesto up through building demolition in Stockton and out to Sacramento. We cover the Bay Area and the Peninsula as well.

Riverbank Environmental and Demolition has been a family company since 1967. It started as a homebuilder, and the work later moved into flooring. Today the company works in environmental and demolition, under CSLB #247684 and CAL OSHA #507. Property owners and general contractors hire us as their demolition contractor for commercial property.

Commercial Demolition Work We Handle

We take down retail buildings, small office buildings, warehouses and ag structures. Light industrial buildings and older commercial shells come down the same way. Stripping a tenant space inside a building that stays standing is interior demolition, covered on its own page. Whole building demolition means the structure and the slab both go.

Buildings up to two or three stories are our sweet spot. That size covers most storefronts, small offices, warehouses and shop buildings. Structural demolition and concrete demolition run together, so slabs and footings come out too. Taller buildings need high reach machines, so we bring in partner companies for high-reach work.

How a Commercial Demolition Job Runs

Hazardous material comes out of the building first. Federal rules require an asbestos survey before a commercial building is demolished. A certified asbestos consultant collects the samples and writes the report. Once that report is in, we handle the asbestos abatement before the teardown starts.

Utilities get cut and capped before any machine touches the building. Power, gas, water and sewer all have to be dead first. Full demolition takes the whole structure down, and selective demolition removes only part of it. Sorted loads leave the site, and the concrete and steel go to recyclers.

Working With Owners and General Contractors

Most jobs need a demolition permit from the city or county building department. California air districts also require written notice before a commercial building comes down. That notice runs ten working days ahead in the Valley and the Bay Area. We plan that lead time into the schedule with your other trades.

General contractors and developers get a footprint cleared of debris at handoff. We set our dates around the trades that follow us on site. Jobs run from the Central Valley out to commercial demolition in Oakland and the rest of the Bay Area. Call (209) 652-9206 with the address and the building type.

FAQ

Commercial Demolition Questions, Answered

Common questions about commercial demolition across the Central Valley, the Bay Area and Sacramento. If yours is not here, call and ask. The person who answers runs the jobs.

Call (209) 652-9206

How tall a building can you demolish?
Two and three story buildings are the size we handle. That covers storefronts, small offices, warehouses and ag structures. For anything taller, we bring in partner companies for high-reach work.
Do I need an asbestos survey before commercial demolition?
Yes. Federal rules require a survey before a commercial building is demolished. A certified asbestos consultant collects the samples and writes the report. We use that report to plan the abatement and the demolition.
How far ahead do permits and notices have to go in?
The demolition permit comes from the city or county building department. California air districts want written notice before the building comes down. That notice runs ten working days ahead in the Valley and the Bay Area. We plan the schedule around that window.
What happens to the debris from a building demolition?
Debris leaves the site in sorted loads. Clean concrete and steel head to recycling yards. California requires most projects to divert at least 65 percent of demolition debris. Some cities set that bar higher.
Where do you do commercial demolition?
Central Valley work covers Riverbank, Modesto, Stockton and the towns between them. Bay Area work covers San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Fremont, Santa Clara and the Peninsula. We also work in Sacramento and Santa Cruz.
